New Priest Talents
Every character class in World of Warcraft has a
"Talent" system similar to Diablo II's skill
progression. You'll have four different talent
"trees" that allow you to customize your approach to
the game. The priest, for example, can focus on
being a good healer or on enhanced combat abilities.
As you spend points in each talent, new tiers will
get unlocked, until you finally get down to the last
stage, which usually has something pretty cool
waiting for you. But you'll only have 51 points to
spend (one point granted every time you level up,
starting at level ten), so you can't max out more
than one tree. But with each point you can spend on
an ability, it gets better.
With Martyrdom, for example, spending two points
increases your chance to get Focused Casting from
50% to 100%. In most cases, the percentage increases
stay flat as more points are invested. Also note
that, in some cases, you can visit a class trainer
and buy an upgrade to an ability, but it is
restricted by character level. If an ability has
many increments, you may not see a significant
improvement unless you have invested several points
in it. Some abilities are "passive," meaning you
don't have to click any buttons to make them work.
Other abilities are "active," meaning you'll need to
click a button to trigger them.
But since any MMO will be difficult to balance so
that no character class has a clear advantage, the
talent trees get adjusted from time to time. With
World of Warcraft's newest patch, the priests are
getting their trees totally redone. As before, you
will be able to redo your talent point distribution
for free, since many of the changes are pretty
significant.
Today, we have a detailed look at all the
adjustments to the priest's talents. Some abilities
have been removed, some new ones have been created,
and others have been moved to different tiers. We've
made notes to highlight the differences between WoW
version 1.9.4 and version 1.10. As an avid player of
the game (but not a priest, so please don't fill my
email box with an avalanche of questions), I've
tried to lay out all the information as clearly a
possible. Enjoy! .
