How do spells work?
All character classes in World of Warcraft have access to spells
and/or special abilities. As characters advance in level, they
can purchase, train, or find new spells and add them to their
spell book and/or ability book. Casting spells and using special
abilities generally requires mana, energy, or rage and may
sometimes require one or more reagents.
Are there "crowd control" spells like sleep, confuse, mesmerize,
etc.?
Yes. In addition to crowd-control spells such as these, there
will be a wide assortment of other spells and abilities that
will vary the tactics players can use to defeat monsters. Some
examples are Fear, Mind Soothe, and Mind Control. Remember,
though, that the monsters will have access to these spells too.
Can you give us more details about group spells and/or rituals?
One example of a group spell is the Warlock's ritual of
summoning. This spell summons a distant party member to the
Warlock's location. In order to complete the spell, the Warlock
must first channel the spell while two other party members then
touch the portal. After all three do this, the spell is complete
and the party member soon appears at the spot of the portal.
Will there be emotes such as waving, bowing, etc?
We expect to have a full spectrum of role-playing emotes within
the game.
Can a summoner destroy their own summoned pets before the time
limit is up?
Yes, controlled pets can be dismissed.
When a character is invisible/stealthed/shadowmelded, can other
players in the same group see them?
Yes, not only will players in the group be able to see them
(they will be faded out), but anyone in the same faction will as
well. They will only go unseen to NPCs and players in the
opposing faction. For example, Alliance players will be able to
see a shadowmelded Night Elf, but not a stealthed troll rogue.
If invisible enemies are seen by one person in a group, can the
rest of the group also detect them?
No, however there will be ways for those that see the enemy to
"expose" them to others.
Can you cast a spell while running or falling?
There are a few spells that can be cast while "on the move.
